To celebrate the fact that “You Never Forget Your First,” Austin Blogger Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper and Austin designer/blogger Maureen Stevens of Inspired Mrs. Stevens have been guest blogging on our F123 blog about their first and worst furniture adventures. They’re also designing beautiful spaces at F123 which will be showcased at our Back to School Bash on Tuesday August 30th from 6 pm – 9pm. (Here’s a sneak peak)
Tolly’s guest post about her first “adult” furniture purchase was about a beautiful fainting couch. Today, Tolly shares about a purchase that wasn’t quite as pretty but could cause someone to faint from the ugly.
Here’s Tolly talking about her worst:
Last week, I shared a story about my apple green fainting sofa, a story about the first adult furniture purchase I ever made. A love story.
But this week, I’d like to tell you about the couch that one replaced.
When I was 22, I rented a little studio apartment on 45th and Speedway that lacked a couch. So I walked to what was once Hyde Park Thrift Store (and what is now a scuba supply shop) and picked something out. It was burnt orange, with seams bursting apart, and weighed roughly the same as a vehicle. That’s because it contained a whole fold-out bed, and while I wasn’t sure how I would get it up to my second floor apartment, I knew I’d think of something.
On the day that I moved, it was raining. My then boyfriend (now husband) and his buddy agreed to move my monstrosity of a couch upstairs, up a winding wet staircase, while they themselves also got rained on. Long story short, this couch nearly killed my future husband.
It was such a God-awful, ugly couch that when I moved out of that apartment, I “gifted” it to the next tenant.
