Announcing our You Never Forget Your First contest winners!

Throughout August, we asked Furnish 123 friends and fans to come in to the store and share with us stories of their first and worst furniture purchases on our Wall of Shame and Wall of Conquest.

We received so many awesome entries and were blown away by each entry’s creativity (why should we be surprised, though – you guys rock!).

On August 30, we hosted a champagne and confection Back to School celebration at our store and selected winners from our Wall of Shame/Wall of Conquest. Check out our winners below and see photos and stories of their first or worst furniture purchase.

Courtney won a brand new chest from us to replace this dresser that has definitely seen better days.

Sara is the winner of a new Furnish 123 sofa that we're hoping will replace her 16 year-old Thrift Town purchase 🙂

Tara is also the winner of a new sofa. RIP purple couch...it's time for a new one!

Jenny's first furniture purchase is pretty impressive...but now she's a winner of a sparkling new dinette set.

Also, Chef Jocelyn, of SugaPlump Pastries, generously gave away four certificates to party guests for use on her delicious desserts. Below are the winners of SugaPlump Pastries gift certificates and their funny entries.

Furnish 123 Champagne and Confection Back to School Celebration

On Tuesday, August 30, 2011 we hosted a champagne and confection Back to School celebration at our store.

Party time!

We toasted the new school year and all the nostalgic memories it brings with glasses of champagne and mouthwatering morsels from SugaPlump Pastries and Cornucopia Gourmet Popcorn.

Dill pickle and sundried tomato basil flavored popcorn from our friends at Cornucopia

We couldn’t get enough of  the delicious popcorn and pastries.  A big thank you  to SugaPlump and Cornucopia for providing the treats.

Lemondrop cake pops & white chocolate Irish creme infused cakeballs & mini french vanilla and strawberry cupcakes from SugaPlump Pastries & Catering

Guests met our “artists in residence” Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper and Maureen Stevens of Inglenook Decor and Inspired Mrs. Stevens.

Room designers & guest bloggers Maureen & Tolly

Both Tolly and Maureen designed spaces at F123 and were our “You Never Forget Your First” guest bloggers. We unveiled their well-styled spaces at the party.

Maureen's Furnish 123 Room

Maureen used Furnish 123’s Riverton sofa in Spa, Cubit ivory cubes, Aaron Spa chairs and  Marsha lamps in her relaxing room design.

With its soft blues and vanilla tones, we felt like it was a room one would want to retreat to after a long day. A little “seaside” get away.

Another shot of Maureen's beautiful room

In Tolly’s room, she used our Oakmere Truffle Leather Sofa, Showwood Accent Chair, Flanders coffee table and Natane lamps for her awesomely styled space. We called it “the cigar room.”  Tolly remarked that she was used to have male roommates in college and that she was accustomed to designing for the male color palette: deep browns and leather.

Guests also wrote on the Conquest Wall/Wall of Shame on the days leading up to the party and during the party and we gave away a free throw blanket to all contest entrants.

Guest Post: Tolly Moseley from Austin Eavesdropper shares her deadly furniture “purchase”

To celebrate the fact that “You Never Forget Your First,” Austin Blogger Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper and Austin designer/blogger Maureen Stevens of  Inspired Mrs. Stevens  have been guest blogging on our F123 blog about their first and worst furniture adventures. They’re also designing beautiful spaces at F123 which will be showcased at our Back to School Bash on Tuesday August 30th from 6 pm – 9pm.  (Here’s a sneak peak)

Tolly’s guest post about her first “adult” furniture purchase was about a beautiful fainting couch.  Today, Tolly shares about a purchase that wasn’t quite as pretty but could cause someone to faint from the ugly.

Here’s Tolly talking about her worst:

Last week, I shared a story about my apple green fainting sofa, a story about the first adult furniture purchase I ever made.  A love story.

But this week, I’d like to tell you about the couch that one replaced.

When I was 22, I rented a little studio apartment on 45th and Speedway that lacked a couch.  So I walked to what was once Hyde Park Thrift Store (and what is now a scuba supply shop) and picked something out.  It was burnt orange, with seams bursting apart, and weighed roughly the same as a vehicle.  That’s because it contained a whole fold-out bed, and while I wasn’t sure how I would get it up to my second floor apartment, I knew I’d think of something.

Tolly's Worst Furniture "purchase"

On the day that I moved, it was raining.  My then boyfriend (now husband) and his buddy agreed to move my monstrosity of a couch upstairs, up a winding wet staircase, while they themselves also got rained on.  Long story short, this couch nearly killed my future husband.

It was such a God-awful, ugly couch that when I moved out of that apartment, I “gifted” it to the next tenant.

Guest Post Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper: My first adult furniture – My Green Antoinette Fainting Sofa

Today’s guest post comes from one of our favorite Austin friends and blogger extraordinaire, Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper.  According to her bio, Tolly is a blogger, freelance writer, and book publicist in Austin, TX. She is a fan of the Alamo Drafthouse, Jane Austen, and cheese. Her hands-down favorite interview was with the late Rue McClanahan, aka Blanche on The Golden Girls. On her blog, she writes about events, artists, and organizations in Austin, as well as stories from her own life. We first mentioned Tolly on the F123 blog when we gave a little “shout out”  about  her awesome bohemian inspired space that was featured in the Austin American-Statesman.

Tolly and her husband recently purchased their first home. First homes also mean first furniture purchases, so we thought it made perfect sense for Tolly to share her thoughts on the subject. So, today, instead of writing about food, events and artists, she’s writing about her first experience:

Guest Post from Maureen Stevens: My first adult furniture – white tufted chairs

We are inspired by the fabulous style and impeccable taste of Austin designer and blogger Maureen Toribio-Stevens.  She was brought to attention by Austin blogger, Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper after we posted a comment on our F123 Facebook wall about wanting to use local designers as our guest designers and bloggers at F123. Tolly suggested that we check out Maureen. We did  and we loved what we found: Maureen has a beautiful online shop called  The Inglenook Decor   which features lovely home accents and modern vintage furnishings. Her blog, Inspired Mrs. Stevens, chronicles her design finds and adventures.

She and Tolly will be guest blogging this month about their furniture adventures. They will also design a space at F123 which will be showcased at the Back to School Bash on Tuesday August 30th, at the F123 store.

Today, Maureen shares her memories of her very first furniture purchase because you never forget your first. Welcome, Maureen!
