Blazing Bovine

At Furnish 123 we love to support our local Austin artists so each month we feature Austin artists‘ work at our store. It’s great for Furnish 123 customers looking to add a little something to their furniture purchases, great for the artists to show off and sell their work and great for us because we get to look at inspiring artwork all day!

One of our featured artists, Doug Naugle, was recently commissioned to paint a life-size cow for Austin’s public art event CowParade.

Doug's cow pre-painting

CowParade, a traveling art show, has just recently come to our city of Austin. Cows will be on parade all over the city from July 28, 2011 – October 16, 2011. Here’s what CowParade is all about straight from the horse’s cow’s mouth:

CowParade is the largest and most recognized public art event in the world. CowParade exhibits, held in 75 cities in 30 countries on six continents to date, have produced more than 5,000 of the signature cow canvases by local artists. Partnering with the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, CowParade Austin will display between 100-150 cow sculptures all around town.

Doug’s cow took him about two hours to complete and we think the result is spectacular.

Not your average cow

Doug’s completed cattle, Blazing Bovine, will soon be put out to pasture somewhere in the Austin area. We can’t wait to see where this Blazing Bovine ends up!
