Guest Post Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper: My first adult furniture – My Green Antoinette Fainting Sofa

Today’s guest post comes from one of our favorite Austin friends and blogger extraordinaire, Tolly Moseley of Austin Eavesdropper.  According to her bio, Tolly is a blogger, freelance writer, and book publicist in Austin, TX. She is a fan of the Alamo Drafthouse, Jane Austen, and cheese. Her hands-down favorite interview was with the late Rue McClanahan, aka Blanche on The Golden Girls. On her blog, she writes about events, artists, and organizations in Austin, as well as stories from her own life. We first mentioned Tolly on the F123 blog when we gave a little “shout out”  about  her awesome bohemian inspired space that was featured in the Austin American-Statesman.

Tolly and her husband recently purchased their first home. First homes also mean first furniture purchases, so we thought it made perfect sense for Tolly to share her thoughts on the subject. So, today, instead of writing about food, events and artists, she’s writing about her first experience:

I was 25 when I found it. My apple green Antoinette Fainting Sofa from Urban Outfitters.

For three years, I lusted after this couch online. I talked about it to friends and family, saved a picture of it on my phone. “Wow,” everyone said. “You must really want that couch.”

Because it was deeper than materialism. I had developed a relationship with this couch.

I finally bought it in December 2010, a little Merry Christmas present to me. “You finally did it!” friends said, sending me congratulatory notes on Facebook. My mom called the day it arrived. I threw a Couch Warming Party for it. When the Austin American-Statesman came to do a story on me and my house earlier this year, I insisted we take a picture of the couch, resting proudly and stylishly in our living room.

It was my first adult furniture purchase, and it hadn’t come from someone’s yard. Or Craigslist. No, this came directly from a manufacturer, and even though my husband says it’s impractical (because it lacks a … back), I think it’s impracticality only enhances its beauty. It’s swooping and luxurious, and it’s the first thing people notice when they walk into our house. Everyone, everyone, loves this couch.

Especially me.

  6. Love this loveseat! Did anyone happen to notice in this weeks “Million Dollar Decorators” episode entitled ‘Explosive Reveals’ that it appears actress Stacey Dash has this same sofa at the foot of her bed in her master bedroom?!
